I Arrange the Stars takes the form of a lotus, a symbol of transformation. Its exterior is covered in defined pattern as a representation of a habitual individual self. When we look inside, we find something more expansive than the exterior: a view of the cosmos. The mosaic that represents the fabric of the night is free of pattern, offering endless possibility. Woven within the night sky are the constellations of my natal chart. The lotus's crucible of transformation forces this vast and yet personal landscape into the stillness of a black hole.
The form of this piece is based on the round mandala offering pan, with the stand as the pan and the mosaic elements, jewels, and glass spheres as the offerings. The act of arranging these elements serves as a form of meditation and reminds us that our experience of the world is merely an arrangement of our attention and intention.
